HOW TO APPLY LIPSTICK STEPWISE

HOW TO APPLY LIPSTICK STEPWISE

It’s been decades since Lipstick has been the most popular form of makeup. It indeed is one of the most essential fashion accessories that most women just can’t do without. I’m sure you ladies will agree that it’s the “go-to” make up for a lot of us when we quickly want to pull our look together. As the popular saying goes – “Give a woman the right Lipstick and she can conquer the world.”

But having said that let me tell you that not everybody knows how to apply Lipstick properly. It’s an art. If you are struggling to master the art of applying Lip Colour, we have a few hacks for you to apply Lipstick perfectly. Let us help you out with these simple ways to apply lipstick perfectly! To achieve the perfect pout and to make sure it stays, follow these tips and get that glam look that lasts all day.

Let’s begin with what we need:

                                                   • A Nourishing Lip Balm/ Lip Conditioner

                                                   • A Lip Liner

                                                   • Concealer

                                                   • Compact Powder

                                                   • Your Favorite Lipstick.

STEP 1: PREP IT UP: This is the first and foremost step and I can’t stress upon this enough – prepping is key! You don’t want to be walking around with dry, chapped lips. Exfoliate with a soft, damp towel or toothbrush and hydrate by applying a nourishing lip balm to make those lips soft, supple and healthy-looking. You may apply a Lip Primer after to make the colour stay on longer and to prevent it from bleeding.

STEP 2: APPLY THE BASE: If you are worried about any kind of discoloration or an uneven lip tone, it’s crucial for your lipstick to have a base to hang onto. This is to make sure your lipstick does not sink into your lips. Choose a concealer shade that matches your lip colour and dab a little on with a flat brush or a small fluffy brush. Apply some compact over this to seal the base. It also helps your lip colour to stay on longer.

Note: The LAKME Lip Love Lip Care + Prime Base is a great option and is also recommended by professional makeup artists.

STEP 3: APPLY A LIP LINER: To define your natural lip line and to prevent your lipstick from getting messy, use a good lip liner to define, reshape and perfect the contours of the lips. This way you will achieve a more defined, precise and polished look.

Trace over your natural lip line from one corner to another with a liner that compliments your skin tone to prevent feathering (this sometimes depends on matching it with the lipstick you decide to wear). To make the Cupid’s bow more prominent, create an ‘X’ shape on your upper lip, just below the Cupid’s bow.

Don’t worry if the lines on the inside are slightly imperfect because the lipstick will cover them anyway – but it’s the outer lines that matter.

Note: Use a liner that has a moderately smooth texture for easier application. We recommend The ONE Colour Stylist Lip Liner Lip Liners that come in various beautiful shades.

STEP 4: CHOOSE YOUR SHADE: Once you finish all the above steps and choose your lipstick, take some product onto a lip brush and apply it evenly all over your lips. Don’t miss out the inner corners. Ensure you apply it within the corners of your lined lips. Go coat by coat and intensify the colour as you please. Usually, one good coat of a quality lipstick will suffice. Note: If you have dry lips, you may not want to use matte lipsticks since they tend to dry your lips even more. Look for moisturizing lipsticks that also condition your lips. If your lips are on the thinner side, avoid using very dark colours as they tend to make your lips look smaller.

STEP 5: ADD DEFINITION: Use a small concealer blush and work on your edges to correct the shape of your lips. This is optional but if you want to give your lips that pouty look, you can add a subtle hint of lip gloss.

Now that you’ve got a basic idea of prepping your lips and applying lipstick perfectly, let’s cover a few other essential ideas that you can make use of.

QUICK TIPS to PERFECT LIPS:

• Don't Play up the Eyes and the Mouth Women who wear heavy eye makeup and dark lipstick can look clownish. If you want to wear red lipstick, keep the rest of your makeup light. If you are playing up the eyes, keep your mouth light with a gloss or light lip colour that doesn't stand out. To get nude lips, which look great with smokey eyes, cover lips with concealer or foundation before applying gloss. This renders lips practically colour less.

• How to Plump Up Lips You don't have to get fillers in your lips to have the bee-stung look. For plumper lips, apply liner just outside your natural lip line, then dab a bit of gloss in the middle of your bottom lip and smack lips together.

• How to Choose the Right Shade of Lipstick or Gloss You may like a lipstick on your friend, but it may not look good on you. Research says that the best lipstick shade is a shade or two darker than your natural lip colour. Orange or brown shades, including corals, look good on few people. These shades tend to make teeth appear yellow.

• Use Liner on Your Lips as a Base Lipstick will last longer if you fill in your lips with the liner first. If you're using light lipstick, try a nude liner. Then slick your lipstick on top. Lip gloss is infamous for wearing off fast, but if you fill in lips first with the liner, the gloss has something to stick to.

• Try a Long-Lasting Lip Stain One of the most annoying things about lipstick and gloss is how it doesn't last long. But these days they make lip stains that last hours. My favourite lip stain is Very Me Mirror Gloss. You apply it and it stays put for hours. It comes with a bit of gloss to make it appear less matte.

• You Can Line Before or After You Apply Lipstick or Gloss Some women prefer to apply liner first, arguing that you won't be able to see the natural line of your lips if you apply lipstick first. But I find lips look more natural when I line lips after I apply lipstick.

• Never Use a Dark Liner With Light Lipstick Defined lips are great, but make sure the liner matches the lipstick or gloss. Dark liner and light lips is tacky.

• How to Properly Test Lipstick in a Store It's just plain unhygienic to test lipstick at a store without wiping off the lipstick with a tissue. You can avoid testing on your lips by swiping the stick on your fingertips. It's a closer fit to your lips than the back of your hand. Also, it's courteous to wipe off the end of the lipstick before you put it back for another person to try

• Don't Throw Out a Bad Shade of Lipstick Beauty editors know you can create a great lip colour by blending lipsticks you don't like. You can also colour-in lips with a darker liner before applying a lipstick that's too bright.

• How to Keep Lipstick from Marking Your Glass Discreetly lick your lips before taking a sip from a glass. It works! Lipstick that doesn’t end up on your cup or your husband’s cheek will end up in you (as crazy as that seems). Research says that the average woman consumes about 6 kg. of lipstick over the course of her lifetime. Bizarre, but true! However, there’s no need to worry, the ingredients in lipstick won’t harm you if you are buying Lakme, Maybelline, Oriflame or L’Oreal etc, which assures quality.

• Keep Lipstick Off Your Teeth With This Trick After applying lipstick, take your index finger and pop it in your mouth, then pull it out. The excess lipstick will come off on your finger rather than your teeth

• The Older You Are, the "Creamier" Your Lips Should Look As we age, our lips thin out. Therefore, you should avoid matte and gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick. Also, watch out for dark lipsticks.

• Camouflage Yellowed Teeth To downplay a yellow cast to teeth, try lipsticks with a bluish undertone. Shades that work include plums, pinks, wines and violets.

Now that we’ve covered application, let’s talk about how to remove your lipstick at the end of the day. It is equally important to take off every speck of makeup before you go to sleep to maintain the wellness of your skin. Besides, it feels good to have soft and healthy lips, doesn’t it?

How To Remove Lipstick? There are several ways to remove lipstick. Ideally, you can use a makeup remover that you will find in abundance in the market. I personally prefer Royal Velvet Creamy Cleansing Milk Eye and Lip makeup remover as it does the job effectively. We must be gentle with our lips, and while removing lipstick, we must always ensure that we don’t damage or dry out our pout in the process. That’s all there is to master the art of wearing and removing Lipstick. We hope you’ve made mental notes of some of these old tricks and hacks for the next time you want to dress your pout.
